If you have visited me as a client, it is highly likely at some point I will have suggested you try a Liver Flush to help support and clean your liver. Springtime is the best time to do this if you plan to only do it for a short while, since that is the time of the year the organ is working at it’s peak, especially in detoxification. This Liver Flush though can be carried out at any time of the year and is very simple to do:
1 whole unwaxed lemon, roughly chopped
1-2 tablespoons of extra virgin cold pressed olive oil
glass of water
Put all the above ingredients into a blender or Magic Bullet and blend until smooth and the oil has been emulsified – drink first thing in the morning, one hour before taking in anything else.
Some people blend in other things like a slice of fresh ginger, a peeled clove of garlic or a pinch of cayenne pepper. All of these are highly beneficial so experiment and see what you enjoy.
What are the benefits?
This is only a mild cleanse, compared with the full gallstone flush, but nevertheless is effective. Expect to experience such benefits as more energy and a lift to your mood, better sleep and clearer skin – but remember this is a detox, so also expect to feel the effects of that too. How toxic your body is when you start will depend on the effects you get – they could include more frequent trips to the toilet (to flush the rubbish away) to mild headaches or skin outbreaks. To minimise the effects and ensure the toxic waste is flushed out of your system, and not simply recycled to another area, make sure you are drinking sufficient alkaline water throughout the day i.e. 3-4 litres.
So why does this simple flush work?
1. You will only truly benefit from this if you take it before anything else since overnight the quantity of bile, and to some degree its pressure, will have built up in the liver. The Flush then stimulates the liver into action and contraction, this will push some of the toxins out of the organ, thus starting the cleanse.
2. The mixture is alkaline, thus giving a good boost to your body’s alkaline reserves early in the day and counteracting in a small way the negative effects of acid producing foods, drinks and stressful, negative emotions that we experience.
3. Since you will will be drinking the whole lemon you will get a good supply of bioflavonoids, I think this quote summarises their benefits:

4. On top of this are the well know benefits of olive oil, and being cold pressed there is no damage to the delicate molecular structure caused by heating. (Only use this oil for the liver flush and salad dressings since it is more expensive to buy you will be wasting money if you use it in cooking.)

Whether you are a client or not I highly recommend trying the Simple Liver Flush, you will benefit, obviously to a limited degree, even if you only do it for a short while – the longer the better, and this is perfectly safe to be done ongoing every morning for a good length of time.
